User-friendly high technology in new washing machines and tumble dryers

2006-01-04
It may not be in the normal run of things that the first step a company takes when developing a new product is contact the National Consumer Agency. But that’s exactly what Pernilla Döse, head of design at ASKO, did.

“The idea was to develop a series of user-friendly washing machines and tumble dryers that didn’t need a thick instruction manual. Machines that make it obvious how they work, just by looking at them.”

Alongside design agency Propeller and in close consultation with the Swedish Consumer Agency, ASKO began designing a simple, user-friendly instrument panel that combines a traditional mechanical knob with a modern, hitech display.

The end result is a series of clean, simple washing machines and tumble dryers, with a host of advanced functions behind the outer casing. All models are classed A for washing results and energy consumption. The intelligent details, such as the unloading shelf for wet laundry, go without saying.

Also, the tumble dryers have been equipped with the new drying system Thermistor, which guarantees the optimum drying result however large or small the load.

There is a general trend to make electronics increasingly easy to understand, with as few unnecessary details as possible. The new WMD25 series from ASKO illustrates this perfectly.
