The new ASKO Classic dishwashers, winner of red dot design award 2011
2011-03-16
Scandinavian design values
Our red dot awarded dishwashers; ASKO D5424 XL, D5434 XL/XXL and D5454 XL/XXL combine form and function in the best possible way. “The smart design has made it possible to remove the traditional plastic panel and put the interface directly in the steel front” says Mr Tobias Strålman, Design Manager at ASKO. The minimalistic front also accentuates the interface as it is the most important touchpoint between user and machine. The circular touch interfaces are as easy as they look: the left circle is for program settings and the right circle is for time management. The circular interfaces give the appliance a clean but at the same time humanistic look, an attempt to erase the border between hardware and software. “We’re extra pleased to receive the award for these products since we feel that they both symbolize and gather our Scandinavian core design values in the best possible way” continues Mr Strålman.
World’s largest and most distinguished design competition
The red dot design award dates back to 1955 and is now the world’s largest and most distinguished design competition. This year, designers and companies from 60 countries entered 4,433 products in the red dot award: product design. The expert jury casts a very careful eye over the products submitted. Design quality has asserted itself clearly in the judging process, with genuine and new creative solutions also being rewarded. Both of these criteria are not just yardsticks for good design, but also for the potential for success on the market. The red dot award also states that the winners are considered to be among the best of the design industry worldwide.
